Chickens and Eggs: A Proof of God

The media is all atwitter about how new research indicates the crystallization mechanism in eggshells involves a catalytic protein. This implies there has to be a chicken to make the protein, before the egg gets made. Ergo: Chicken –> egg.

Poppycock. Here’s an answer I came up with a long time ago:

1) According to evolution, something slightly different from a chicken laid an egg that hatched a chicken. Therefore, the egg came first.

2) According to divine creation stories (regardless of the religion), a god of some sort made all beasts and fish and fowl. No creation myth I’m aware of says anything about gods making eggs first. Thus, chickens came first.

Now, this might imply science has proven the existence of god, since the new research implies the chicken came first. Careful examination of the reasoning, however, shows that proposition #1 is still valid. Something slightly different from what we call a chicken laid an egg, using the same OC-17 catalyst protein to build the shell. That egg hatched a critter with a slight mutation in its own genes – a mutation sufficient to denote it a chicken.

Darwin is saved again! *whew*
